Andoni Iraola has warned other top clubs around Europe that Alexis Mac Allister is not for sale.
The Argentinian midfielder helped his nation to the World Cup final, but the team let themselves down by waving a flag declaring their ownership of the Falkland Islands after beating England in the semi-finals.
That prompted an angry reaction and calls from fans across social media for Argentinian players to be kicked out of the Premier League, at a time when rumours were already swirling around about Mac Allister’s future and a possible move to Real Madrid.
However, Iraola is determined to hold onto his key players and Mac Allister is definitely one of them.
“Alexis has been one of the best players of the club in the last years. He has had a very good World Cup and it is normal that other clubs want our best players,” said the Liverpool boss.
“They are our good players. It always happens in other markets. But I want to – also as other clubs want to – keep my good players. Probably I’m looking forward more to signing new players to the ones we have here already.”
