Liverpool’s defensive ranks have been handed an injection of youth and technical ability following the summer arrival of French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet.
Signed for £60 million from Stade Rennais in a deal that was agreed back in February, the 21-year-old officially takes the prestigious number 5 shirt.
With the 2026/27 campaign getting underway in a few weeks time, the Anfield faithful can look forward to a modern defender ready to build his reputation in England football, replacing the outgoing Ibrahima Konate, who has gone to Real Madrid.

Jacquet brings immense physical presence to the backline. Standing at 6’2″ tall, he proved to be an incredibly tough obstacle to bypass during his senior outings in France. While the price tag indicates a player bought for the long-term future, patience will be key. Having seen his previous campaign cut short by a shoulder injury not long after he agreed the Liverpool move, Jacquet is now fully recovered and was among the first to report to the AXA Training Centre for pre-season training.
Working under the direct guidance of new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola and alongside the experienced captain Virgil van Dijk, this season will serve as a massive developmental stepping stone for Jacquet.
