Liverpool have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola after German giants Bayern Munich ruled themselves out of competing for his signature.
The 23-year-old French forward has been at the top of Liverpool’s summer transfer shortlist as they seek to rebuild their forward line. Reports from Germany confirmed on Friday morning that, while Bayern Munich admire the talent of the player, the eye-watering valuation placed on him by the French champions makes a move to the Bundesliga practically impossible this summer.
Journalist Christian Falk confirmed that PSG are demanding a fee in the region of £127m for the forward, whom they hope to tie down to a long-term contract extension.
“It is true: Bradley Barcola is one of the names on the shortlist at Bayern Munich if they have to replace Michael Olise,” Falk explained.
“However, at the moment there is zero chance of getting this player for the club. That is because PSG want to give the winger a new contract, and amounts in the region of £127m have been floated, which Bayern will not match.”
This development leaves Liverpool as one of the few European clubs with the financial capability to test the resolve of the Parisian outfit.
With head coach Andoni Iraola explicitly calling for wingers, Barcola represents a ideal candidate due to his exceptional speed, dribbling ability, and pressing work rate.
Although negotiating with PSG is notoriously complex, the removal of Bayern Munich from the race provides the Liverpool recruitment department with a clear path to advance discussions if they choose to launch a formal bid before the transfer window shuts.
