Sammy Lee is a former Liverpool midfielder renowned for his energy, sharp passing, and consistency during the club’s dominant early 1980’s.
Rising from the youth ranks to debut in 1978, he became a first-team regular from 1980–81, scoring in key games and featuring prominently in multiple trophy-winning campaigns.
Across 197 appearances and 17 goals for Liverpool from 1978 to 1986, Lee won four First Division titles (1981–82, 1982–83, 1983–84, 1985–86), four League Cups (1980–81 to 1983–84), and two European Cups (1980–81, 1983–84).
The highlight of his career came in 1983–84, when he remarkably started all 67 matches as Liverpool completed a historic treble of the League, European Cup, and League Cup under Joe Fagan, a testament to his durability and importance to the team. He also earned 14 England caps, underscoring his standing in the game during that period.
After leaving Anfield in 1986, Lee later returned to the coaching staff under Graeme Souness in 1993, before moving on to first team coach under Gerard Houllier, then returning to the club in 2008 as assistant manager to Rafa Benitez. After serving under Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish, he left in 2011.
