Freddie Woodman has committed his future to Liverpool by signing a long-term contract extension.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper originally joined the Merseyside outfit on a free transfer last summer to bolster the goalkeeping department.
Following a series of injury setbacks to both Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili during the previous campaign, the former England youth international was thrust into first-team action, making four appearances across domestic competitions.
His standout performances, particularly during a dramatic 2-1 Merseyside derby victory over Everton and a clean sheet against Crystal Palace at Anfield where he received player of the match honors, convinced the decision makers to reward him with a renewed agreement.
Speaking to the official club media in Chicago during the ongoing pre-season tour, Woodman expressed his immense pride at extending his stay.
“I am absolutely delighted, to be honest,” Woodman revealed. “Off the back of last season, personally it was amazing for me, and then to come back in pre-season and there be an offer for me from the club to stay here longer, I was made up.
“I am just so happy that I could re-sign here and be a part of this amazing institution. Last season I came in and did the role I was doing, and then when I got the opportunity to play, especially the Palace game, it just felt like a real connection to the fans.”
The 29-year-old stopper will remain a key component of the senior goalkeeping unit under newly-appointed head coach Andoni Iraola.
With pre-season preparations stepping up in the United States, Woodman emphasized that his approach to training will remain identical despite securing his long-term future.
“My aim is just exactly the same as last year, really – to do everything I can in the role that I do every single day, because I might be called upon at any moment,” he added.
“Last season, I worked all year just because I knew I might have to play a small role, so that will be my exact mindset once again.”
