Jeremie Frimpong is fully aware of the need for Liverpool to be converting possession into goals as the Reds prepare for Saturday afternoon’s home clash with Nottingham Forest.
Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle was a frustrating one for the fans. Despite dominating possession throughout the game, Andoni Iraola’s men struggled to take advantage, finding themselves a goal down as the game went into stoppage time.
On a positive note, Liverpool kept pushing for an equaliser, which eventually came in the final minute, thanks to a penalty conversion by Dominik Szoboszlai.
“Finishing your chances, finishing the actions, because that’s what gets you the result,” said Frimpong ahead of Saturday’s game.
“You can keep the ball all you want but if you don’t finish then it stays 0-0 or they end up scoring, so just finish the actions.”
“I think every coach has their own type of system that they want to play and it takes time to adjust and for us to know, and get used to it, where we’re comfortable with it.
“So, we’re still working on it but I think it’s going the right way. This whole pre-season I played right-back and I’m getting more comfortable there,” he explained.
“Last season was a mixture of right wing and right-back, but right now it’s just been right-back. I feel like I’m defending more, I’m recovering more. I still attack, of course, but I like it, I’m enjoying it.
The Reds were well and truly beaten 3-0 by Forest at Anfield last November, as cracks started to appear in Arne Slot’s Premier League winning side. Hopefully, lessons have been learned.
