Iraola explains Gravenberch injury

Ryan Gravenberch is the latest casualty, as Liverpool continue to struggle with injuries.

The Dutch midfielder was left out of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal and has since failed to travel with the squad to Turkey for Wednesday night’s Champions League game against Fenerbahce.

He’s apparently recovering from a hell injury, but Andoni Iraola refused to be drawn on whether he would be available for Sunday’s game at Crystal Palace.

“I don’t know, it’s a day-to-day thing,” said the boss in Tuesday afternoon’s press conference.

“It’s a fracture of the heel. It’s about the pain. He has been with some discomfort.

“The other day against Arsenal he was warming up and he was not fully confident. He hasn’t improved since then.

“It’s going to be something that every day we ask him, every day we see how he is. If he can be available for the weekend, lovely, he would be a very good help for us, but I cannot tell you right now.”

Liverpool arrive in Istanbul aiming to maintain a flawless record in the Champions League, looking for a maximum 12 points from a possible 12.

The Reds have been prolific in Europe this season, netting 12 goals across their opening three fixtures.

However, trips to Turkey have historically posed problems, with Liverpool having lost their last three visits to Turkish opposition 1-0. It won’t be easy to get a result here.
