Andoni Iraola was happy with Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Como, in the final friendly ahead of the new season.
First-half goals from Cody Gakpo and Jeremy Jacquet gave the Reds a deserved victory and gave us a glimpse of what to expect from them in the coming weeks and months.
The new head coach was happy with what he saw at Anfield.
“I think we need a little bit this feeling of finishing with a clean sheet, winning the game,” he said.
“Still, the first half has been better than the second, but at least we kept our organisation, our composure and we found a way to finish with a clean sheet, 2-0.
“I think we needed this feeling before we start.”
As Liverpool prepare for next Sunday’s Premier League opener at Newcastle, Iraola admits it will take a few more weeks for the team to fully gel.
“Some of the players that have started playing today, we need to build relationships, the players to have this option to solve problems by themselves in the pitch, analyse what we can improve – especially second half today.
“This needs time. So, I think we can use these two, three weeks – we have full weeks – so we are ready for the league.”
