A consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia is interested in buying a minority stake in Liverpool Football Club.
Bhatia, who is the son-in-law of Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, stepped down from the board and sold his stake at QPR on Tuesday afternoon after 18 seasons as co-owner.
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) confirmed to the BBC that Bhatia’s group has expressed interest in a strategic minority investment. However, a deal has not yet been finalised.
If completed, the arrangement would mirror FSG’s sale of a minority stake to investment firm Dynasty in 2023.
FSG originally bought Liverpool for £300m in 2010, when the club faced potential administration after Hicks and Gillette ran it into the ground.
According to the Financial Times, this latest proposed deal with Bhatia’s consortium would value the club at over £4.5bn.
