Liverpool left it late to rescue a point against the Black Cats at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Buoyed by Sunday’s victory at West Ham, Liverpool fans were expecting a better performance from the team.
Arne Slot made only one change to Sunday’s team, bringing on Andy Robertson for Milos Kerkez and keeping Mo Salah on the bench.
But it was another disappointing night. Florian Wirtz’s equaliser – his first goal since joining the club – was later put down as an own goal and Federico Chiesa’s defensive efforts spared Liverpool’s blushes in the dying minutes.
