Liverpool confirm new coaching appointment

Liverpool Football Club have appointed Luiz Fernando Iubel in a new role as player development coach to help young players progress into the first team.

Iubel is a holder of the UEFA A, UEFA A Elite Youth and CONMEBOL Pro licences and has lots of experience as a head coach and assistant in Brazil’s Serie A plus coaching roles at Vasco da Gama, Ceara, Bahia, Ponte Preta, Coritiba, Juventude, Atletico Mineiro and Cuiaba. He was also a tactical analyst for Germany during their silver-medal campaign at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

According to a club statement, the 36-year-old ‘will work closely with Academy coaches to provide a joined-up pathway from the Kirkby set-up to loans and then into the senior team. That will also see him connect with the loan support team and other clubs, maintaining direct contact with players developing away from the Reds.’
