Liverpool legend John Toshack has been diagnosed with dementia, his son Cameron has confirmed.
He has ‘good days and bad days’, but he can still recite entire line-ups from matches he contested and oversaw decades ago, he added.
The 77-year-old former forward scored 74 goals in 172 appearances for the Reds from 1970 to 1978, teaming up with Kevin Keegan to help the club to domestic and European success under the late, great Bill Shankly.
After a glittering playing career with Liverpool, he went on to manage several leading clubs across Europe including Real Madrid twice and also the Wales national team.
