Liverpool linked with Stuttgart skipper

VfB Stuttgart captain Waldemar Anton is the latest player to be linked with a move to Anfield.

The 27-year-old defender took over the armband from Wataru Endo when the Japanese midfielder moved to Liverpool last summer.

Interestingly, when Endo’s transfer was announced, Anton declared his admiration for the Reds.

“Of course, we would all have preferred it if Wataru had stayed because he is simply great in terms of sport and personality,” he said.

“But he’s not going anywhere, he’s going to Liverpool FC, one of the best clubs in the world. We understand he wanted to seize this opportunity and we wish him the best.”

Anton reportedly has a €22.5m release clause in his current contract with the Bundesliga club.
