Liverpool owners consider Spanish acquisition

Fenway Sports Group are considering investing in Spanish club Malaga, but they could face competition from PSG owners Qatar Sports Investments.

Representatives from FSG visited Malaga’s facilities last month to evaluate a possible investment.

However, a statement from the company to the Echo said: “FSG routinely engages in conversations and evaluates opportunities across global sports, a common process to assess ventures that align with the organisation’s strategic priorities.”

Malaga are currently struggling in LaLiga 2 and are reportedly in financial difficulties with spiralling debts following Qatari businessman Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani’s takeover in 2010 and will be seen by FSG as a good opportunity to grow their football portfolio.
