Harvey Elliott scored a cracking solo effort during England’s 2-0 victory over Germany in the European U21 Championship on Wednesday night.
“It just wanted to do it myself, to be honest,” said the Liverpool midfielder.
“I get criticised a lot for not getting many goals and assists, especially playing in an attacking position, so it was just a great opportunity for me to go out there and be more selfish in a way.
“It just opened up nicely for me. I just wanted to stay cool, calm and collected and make sure I finished it off.
“Luckily it went in the back of the net.”
The win sees England top Group C with three wins from three games.
