Liverpool’s trip to St James Park on Monday night was always going to be a tough challenge.
Newcastle United were spurred on by a boisterous crowd eager to seek some sort of retaliation for Alexander Isak’s desire to leave the Magpies for Anfield.
Goals from Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch gave Liverpool a comfortable lead but, with the home side down to ten men after Anthony Gordon’s red card, Arne Slot‘s men once again let a lead slip and as the game went into added time it was Newcastle who looked the strongest.
However, up stepped 16-year-old substitute Rio Ngumoha with a last-minute winner. It may not have been fully deserved, but we’ll take those three points and hopefully use the final week of the transfer window to shore up the defence ahead of what is going to be a challenging season for the Premier League champions.
