Martin Zubimendi’s decision to reject a transfer to Liverpool in favour of remaining at his boyhood club Real Sociedad surprised us all.
However, the Spanish midfielder denies that he was put under pressure to turn down the move.
“No, no, my friends are clear that whatever I decide will be the best,” he told Marca. “There is no pressure whatsoever.
“Real Sociedad for me is my life, I think I have spent half my life there. A lot of what I am is part of la Real, it is my life.
“Europe is clear. The higher the position, the better. We have to look for our best version and, above all, compete. To feel competitive, to be recognised and to be seen with personality.”
However, journalist David Lynch believes that despite Ryan Gravenberch excelling in the number 6 position, the Reds may make another move for Zubimendi in January if Sociedad decide to cash in on their prize asset.
