10 years since Jurgen arrived

On 8th October 2015, Jurgen Klopp arrived at Liverpool Football Club. The German was appointed manager following the departure of Brendan Rodgers and, in his first press conference as Liverpool manager, promptly claimed “I am the normal one” and promised to turn “doubters into believers”. He did that.

After years of underachievement, Liverpool finally found the man to restore glory to the club.

Klopp had stood down from his position as coach at Borussia Dortmund and left the German club a hero. That speaks volumes.

Jurgen instilled a belief in the players, some of whom possibly weren’t up to the level expected to win the league, and got the very best from his squad.

During his time as manager from 2015 to 2024 – the longest reign since Bob Paisley – Klopp led the club to an incredibl number of titles and trophies. His haul of eight trophies made him Liverpool’s second-most decorated manager.

The full list:

Premier League: 2019-20
UEFA Champions League: 2018-19
FA Cup: 2021-22
EFL Cup (League Cup): 2021-22, 2023-24
FIFA Club World Cup: 2019
UEFA Super Cup: 2019
FA Community Shield: 2022

Klopp shocked the world in January 2024 when he announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. He claimed he was “running out of energy”, as the team did during the second half of that season.

Fortunately though, the club had already earmarked Arne Slot as Klopp’s replacement and Jurgen was quick to encourage support for his successor during his end of season farewell speech at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp put Liverpool back on track, and for that we will all be so very grateful. He reinstilled the values that Liverpool Football Club hold dear and is a legend that will go down in the history books of the greatest team on earth.
