Wirtz, Munoz, Szoboszlai fitness update

Andoni Iraola spoke to the press at AXA Training Centre ahead of Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea at Anfield.

The big question for the Liverpool head coach was on the availability of Florian Wirtz, Victor Munoz and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Both Munoz and Szoboszlai missed Sunday’s 2-0 win over Brighton with with knee and hamstring injuries, while Wirtz twisted his ankle during the game and had to go off.

“We still have to wait, we train later. We want to [check] this last day,” said Iraola. “He was quite fine, Florian. I’m quite optimistic that he will be available.

“With Dom and Victor, I’m not so sure. I don’t want to say no, but I think it’s going to be more difficult than Florian, yes.”

While the Carabao Cup is less important than next Sunday’s Premier League game against Arsenal, again at Anfield, the boss will be keen to ensure the Reds progress in the tournament.

It’s unlikely Wirtz will start the game, but having him on the bench and getting a run out before we face the Gunners would be a good move.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are suffering a bit of ain injury crisis of their own. Emi Martinez are out Reece James, while Joao Pedro is very doubtful.

The Blues will also be without Cole Palmer, who is serving a one-match suspension after being sent off against Tottenham on Saturday.
