Dominik Szoboszlai believes Liverpool have what it takes to succeed under new head coach Andoni Iraola, but he has admitted that the team will need to produce something special if no further signings arrive before the transfer window shuts.
The 25-year-old Hungarian captain, who played well despite Liverpool’s struggles last season, spoke candidly following the conclusion of the club’s pre-season tour of North America.
The Reds wrapped up their trip with a 4-2 defeat to Leeds United in Chicago, highlighting defensive concerns for the new manager.
While central defender Jeremy Jacquet and versatile Spanish forward Victor Munoz have arrived on Merseyside, high-profile exits including Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate on free transfers have left the roster noticeably thin in key areas.
“I cannot wait for the new season, honestly,” said Szoboszlai. “I feel that we are ready to go again and take motivation from last season because collectively it was not our best.
“We did not finish where we wanted to, so now we are going to go for it again. Everyone is motivated, and everybody is starting from zero right now under the new manager.”
When asked directly about the ongoing recruitment efforts, the 25-year-old midfielder made it clear that while players welcome fresh additions, the current group must deliver regardless.
“It is not my job to tell you who we have to sign,” Szoboszlai added.
“If the board and the manager decide to sign someone, we will welcome them well. If they decide not to, then we have to produce something special with what we have.”
