Graeme Souness

Graeme Souness made his debut in 1978 after Bob Paisley signed him from Middlesbrough for £352,000.

Souness was the central pillar in Liverpool’s midfield during his six years at the club and guided them to domestic and European success before leaving for Sampdoria in 1984.

He finally returned to Liverpool as manager when Kenny Dalglish resigned. His management style became unpopular with both players and fans alike and he lasted just under three seasons at the club.

He went on to becoming a football pundit on TV, regularly clashing with Roy Keane and others with his controversial views.

Souness also does a lot of fundraising work for DEBRA – the charity set up for people with the rare EB skin disease and swam the channel to raise money for them in 2023.

He received an CBE in the King’s Honours List for his football and charity work in 2024.
