When Roberto Firmino signed for Liverpool from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 for £29 million, few predicted he would become one of the key players of Liverpool’s greatest modern side.

Despite not getting a lot of game time initially under Brendan Rogers, his Anfield career ignited following the arrival of Jurgen Klopp, who recognised that Firmino was not a traditional centre-forward.

Instead, the Brazilian evolved into the perfect false nine in a side built on relentless pressing and vertical speed.

Across 362 appearances for the Reds, “Bobby” scored 111 goals and delivered 72 assists, yet the stats can never captured his full influence.

Leading the front line between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, Firmino dropped deep to drag opposing centre-backs out of position, creating spaces for his wingers to attack.

Klopp famously described him as the “orchestra conductor” of the team, noting that whilst others scored more, Firmino made the entire collective work.

His defensive work rate was equally extraordinary, pressing the opposition and winning possession higher up the pitch than almost any other striker.

He also brought pure joy and swagger to Anfield. From trademark no-look finishes and Kung Fu kick celebrations to his gleaming smile, Firmino quickly became an idol on the Kop.

He was also a player for massive moments. He struck late winners in both the semi-final and final of the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup, crowning Liverpool world champions for the first time in their history.

During his eight seasons at Anfield, Firmino helped the club conquer every major prize – the Champions League in 2019, the Premier League in 2020, both domestic cups in 2022, and the UEFA Super Cup.

By the time he departed in May 2023, leaving as a free agent, his legacy was carved in club folklore.

His farewell at Anfield was marked by an emotional equaliser against Aston Villa, accompanied by non-stop renditions of “Si Senor” from all four corners of the ground.
