Salah set for Anfield farewell following injury boost

Liverpool fans have been handed a significant boost ahead of the Premier League run-in, as the club confirmed that Mohamed Salah is expected to return to action before the end of the season.

The Egyptian international, whose future has been the subject of intense speculation, sparked fears of a premature end to his Anfield career when he limped off during the second half of Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace last Saturday.

Salah’s emotional reaction – applauding all four corners of the stadium before heading straight down the tunnel – led many to believe the hamstring issue was severe enough to end his final campaign with the Reds.

However, a medical update released by the club on Wednesday has allayed those concerns.

“Minor Muscle Injury” Confirmed

Following comprehensive scans, Liverpool’s medical staff confirmed that the 33-year-old forward has suffered only a “minor muscle injury.”

While the problem is enough to keep him out of the immediate first-team squad, the timeline for recovery suggests he will feature in the final stretch of the 2025-26 season.

“Liverpool FC can confirm Mohamed Salah is expected to be available to play again before the end of this season,” the club statement read.

“The issue that caused his withdrawal has now been confirmed as a minor muscle injury. It is, however, anticipated Salah will return to action ahead of the conclusion of the campaign and his departure from the Reds this summer.”

The Race for the Top Four

The news comes at a critical juncture for manager Arne Slot. Liverpool are currently embroiled in a tight battle for Champions League qualification, sitting in fourth place.

Salah, despite a season that has seen a decline from his usual record-breaking numbers, remains a vital component of the attack, contributing seven goals and six assists in 25 league appearances this term.

While Salah is almost certain to miss this Sunday’s high-stakes trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, as well as the mid-week clash against Chelsea on 9 May, the target for his return appears to be the final two fixtures.

Liverpool travel to Villa Park to face Aston Villa before concluding the season at home against Brentford on 24 May.

A Proper Goodbye

The prospect of Salah missing the final day of the season was particularly poignant given the club’s announcement in March that he would be leaving this summer.

After nine years, during which he helped secure both the Premier League and Champions League titles, the “Egyptian King” is set to move on, with rumours linking him to various clubs in Italy, France, and the Saudi Pro League.

With the injury confirmed as minor, the Anfield faithful will likely get one last chance to see their iconic number 11 in Red before he departs for pastures new.
