The record attendance of 61,905 was set at an FA Cup fourth round tie between Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers on 2 February 1952.
The Reds won it 2-1, with the first goal coming from a young Bob Paisley and Billy Liddell claiming the assist.
The ground’s capacity was reduced over time for safety reasons, then even more when it became all-seated following the Hillsborough Disaster.
Development in the last few years has seen those numbers steadily increasing and the addition of the new Anfield Road Stand means it is possible this record could be broken in the not too distant future.
