So you’ve got your match ticket but want to sample the atmosphere in one or two of the local establishments before the game kicks off?
A lot has changed around Anfield with stadium development over recent years, so here is a guide to some of the best pubs currently still open around the ground before kick-off:
Albert
Walton Breck Rd
The original and still standing despite the stadium expansion around it. Packed bar and not easy to get served quickly, but its great pre-match singalong to the classic Kop songs.
Arkles
Anfield Rd
Very popular on match days. Close to the Anfield Road end of the ground.
Flat Iron
Walton Breck Rd
Very busy pub pre and post match. Used to be called the Breckside years ago.
Grove
Breckfield Rd
Decent pub, 15 minute walk from the ground. Safe for away fans.
Hotel TIA
Anfield Rd
Popular bar and hotel with beer garden, terrace and lounge.
The Park
Walton Breck Rd
Over the road from The Kop and the liveliest pub before kick-off these days. Expect to have to queue up to get in on matchdays.
The Paisley Gates (was The George)
Breck Rd
Popular and reasonably busy pub before and after the game. Decent food.
The Sandon
Oakfield Rd/Houlding St
Yet another busy pub on matchday, with large outdoor area and bottle bar at the back.
Taggy’s Bar
Anfield Rd
Just a few minutes walk from the ground, with a big outdoor screen in the beer garden and matchday entertainment from Andy Hodgson and others.
The Twelfth Man
Walton Breck Rd
Yet another busy pub on matchday with great pre-match buzz.
