Liverpool’s summer transfer strategy has already suffered an immediate legal setback, as post-Brexit regulations have blocked the club from completing a summer move for Hertha Berlin prodigy Kennet Eichhorn.
The 16-year-old central midfielder has attracted immense interest from across Europe, and Liverpool were heavily scouting him as part of their long-term midfield succession planning.
However, English clubs are currently forbidden from signing foreign players under the age of 18 due to strict post-EU immigration laws.
While continental giants like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain are free to sign Eichhorn immediately, the Reds are hamstrung.
Liverpool are legally permitted to agree to a pre-contract arrangement this summer, but the player would not be allowed to officially move to Merseyside until he turns 18 in July 2027.
Sky Germany reports that Eichhorn is determined to leave Hertha this summer, meaning Liverpool face a major risk of losing the €12 million-rated midfielder to Bundesliga rivals like Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund who can offer an immediate contract.
