Liverpool cashed in on Nunez by selling him to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal for around £46m last summer.
He scored nine goals in 24 games for Al-Hilal, but he fell down the pecking order following the arrival of Karim Benzema and has now had his Al-Hilal contract terminated by mutual agreement.
Nunez fans will be able to watch him in action when Uruguay take on Saudi Arabia at 11pm tonight.
