Former Liverpool winger Ben Gannon-Doak briefly became Scotland’s youngest-ever World Cup player and was the star in Scotland’s tournament opener against Haiti.
With Scotland leading through John McGinn, the 20-year-old who now plays for Bournemouth, shielded the ball to safety and celebrated like he was the one who had scored the winner early in the second half.
The 1-0 victory for Steve Clarke’s side has now put them in a strong position to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in their history.
Of particular interest to Liverpool fans is the buy-back clause in Gannon-Doak’s Bournemouth contract. If he continues to improve there may be an opportunity to bring him back to Anfield.
