Tottenham are continuing to explore attacking reinforcements this summer, with Cody Gakpo emerging as the latest name being linked with a move to North London.
The Dutch forward, who has become a versatile option across Liverpool’s front line, is understood to be admired within Tottenham’s recruitment team as they look to add more consistent goal threat and flexibility in wide and central positions. Reports over recent days have suggested Spurs are monitoring his situation closely.
Liverpool, however, are not actively seeking to sell the player as things stand, despite the Dutchman having a poor season. With nine goals and six assists in 52 games, the club will be wanting better results in the upcoming season.
New head coach Andoni Iraola will be looking to maintain depth in forward areas and improvements where possible.
“There is interest from Tottenham, there are clubs trying to understand if there is a way to strike a deal for Cody Gakpo this summer,” said Fabrizio Romano. “But as of today, Liverpool are yet to give a green light for the exit.
“Liverpool are still very happy with Cody Gakpo, Gakpo’s started very well at the World Cup, scoring goals, showing his quality once again.”
“There is going to obviously be a moment where Liverpool have to make a decision, I don’t think it’s going to be during the World Cup.
“I don’t think Gakpo is going to Tottenham today or tomorrow. So it’s going to take time before we understand his future.
“For sure, there is interest. At this moment in time Liverpool are not opening the doors – let’s see, because the market is still long.”
