The recent reports that Virgil van Dijk is surplus to requirements at Liverpool have been quashed by journalist, James Pearce.
Teamtalk led with the headline ‘Liverpool open to shock Van Dijk sale’ on Friday, claiming that Liverpool were willing to part ways with their club captain if an acceptable offer is received.
However, The Athletic’s James Pearce insists there’s no truth to the story and that the Dutch defender is going nowhere.
Virgil van Dijk is going nowhere. The LFC captain currently on holiday and then back for pre-season.

We need to remember that we are in the middle of a transfer window, in the middle of a World Cup, with a new head coach and a squad that underperformed last season.
It’s no secret that the club need to bring in new players next season, the best footballers in the world are in the shop window in America, agents are networking and transfer rumours are two-a-penny.
That doesn’t mean that none of it is true, it just means the signal to noise ratio is very low at the moment and, as such, fans should take the majority of what they read with a large pinch of salt.
In the case of Van Dijk, let’s hope there’s nothing in this latest rumour and he helps steady the ship going into next season.
