Hugo Ekitike scored a brace, Florian Wirtz added another and Ibrahima Konate, who has just lost his father, topped it off with a late fourth in front of the Kop.
It was a victory to be proud of and showed the grit, determination and team spirit needed if Liverpool are to improve over the remainder of this season.
However, it was Anthony Gordon who put the visitors ahead after a first half hour of good football from the visitors. Thankfully, Ekitike was on hand to turn the game around with two goals in two minutes just before half-time.
It’s great to see Wirtz now fully settled in and showing his true class in midfield. Another goal from him made it six so far for the season, three of which have been in January alone.
But the biggest cheer was for Ibou Konate, who returned early from compassionate leave because of the club’s injury crisis and scored the final goal of the game. He was surrounded by his teammates in an emotional celebration, with Alisson Becker running the length of the field to join in.
