Liverpool have reportedly added Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio to their summer shortlist as the club scramble to solve a sudden defensive crisis.
The recruitment team was forced to completely pivot their transfer plans after it was confirmed that Ibrahima Konate will leave Anfield as a free agent at the end of the month.
Real Madrid are poised to sign the 27-year-old Frenchman, leaving incoming head coach Andoni Iraola with an urgent vacancy in his backline.
Inacio has been a long-term target for the Anfield scouts, and his versatility as a left-footed centre-back who can also cover full-back makes him an incredibly attractive option for Iraola’s high-intensity system.
Sporting are expected to hold out for his full release clause, but sporting director Richard Hughes is under pressure to deliver a high-calibre partner for Virgil van Dijk.
With the departures of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson already confirmed, there’s a lot of work needed to stabilise the squad before pre-season training begins.
