Jurgen Klopp has emerged as the favourite to take over from Julian Nagelsmann after Germany’s shock exit from the World Cup at the hands of Paraguay on Monday night.
Nagelsmann replaced Hansi Flick in September 2023 with high expectations for the former Bayern Munich boss.
He is contracted with the German national team until the end of the 2028 Euros, but the word on the street is that he may be moved aside in favour of Klopp.
Since stepping down as Liverpool boss in 2024 after burning himself out, Klopp spent a lot of time relaxing and holidaying, but eventually returned to football in the role of Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH at the start of 2025.
He’s since been a regular pundit on both UK and German TV and is currently covering the World Cup with Magenta TV.
Klopp clearly needed a break from football management when he left Liverpool, but a return at a less stressful level with the German national team could be the perfect balance for him if the position became available.
