Liverpool are bracing themselves for a formal approach from Serie A giants Juventus for their first choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The 33-year-old Brazilian made his long-awaited return from a 10-game hamstring injury layoff during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford.
However, Italian media are reporting that Alisson has already been tabled a tempting three-year contract offer from the Turin club.
The situation leaves the Anfield hierarchy with a dilemma. Alisson missed roughly 36% of Liverpool’s matches due to injury or illness this past season, prompting questions about his long-term reliability.
Compounding the issue is the summer arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was signed last year to eventually take the number one shirt, but has yet been unable to show the consistency needed to step up to first choice.
While Liverpool triggered a 12-month extension on Alisson’s deal earlier this year to protect his market value, a substantial bid from Juventus could give all parties pause for thought as a clean break becomes a distinct financial possibility at a time when Liverpool appear to be going through a transition period.
