Liverpool’s pursuit of Hertha Berlin midfield prodigy Kennet Eichhorn has ended in disappointment, after the 16-year-old decided to join Bayer Leverkusen.
The German wonderkid has been at the centre of an intense European transfer battle, with transfer expert Florian Plettenberg confirming the deal is completely done, leaving the Reds to miss out on one of their top summer targets.
Anfield scouts had made intensive efforts to secure the highly-rated youngster, who put in several standout performances in Germany this season.
Despite the lure of moving to the Premier League and playing under Andoni Iraola, Eichhorn chose to continue his development in the Bundesliga under a contract running until 2031.
Leverkusen triggered a release clause worth between €8m and €9m to seal the deal.
