Arne Slot

Arne Slot took over as Liverpool Football Club Head Coach after the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

He had massive boots to fill but the Dutchman hit the ground running, got the Reds playing in a more composed, self-assured manner and went on to win the Premier League title in his first season in charge.

As a player he was a midfielder for FC Zwolle, NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam and PEC Zwolle before he went into coaching, initially at PEC, then AZ and eventually stepping up to be head coach of Feyenoord from the 21/22 season. Slot went on to lead Feyenoord to the league title in 22/23 and finish runners up in 23/24.

With a higher calibre squad and a bigger transfer kitty for 25/26, the pressure was on Arne Slot to see how he performs in his second season in charge. The additional emotional impact on the coach and his players following Diogo Jota‘s death added to the difficulties.

It ended up a very disappointing season, with the Reds losing an unacceptable 12 games in the Premier League campaign and finishing fifth, just qualifying for the Champions League. Off the field, Mo Salah expressed his frustrations with Slot and chose to leave the club at the end of the season.

Slot was finally sacked by the Liverpool board on Saturday 30 May 2026. FSG appear to have already earmarked his successor – Andoni Iraola – who was appointed as the new head coach six days later.
