Liverpool have swiftly rejected a verbal opening offer from Inter Milan for Curtis Jones.
Reports from Sky Sports confirm the Italian giants tabled a proposal worth £21m, a fee that the Liverpool board believe falls considerably short of their own £35m valuation.
They believe there is a premium on homegrown English talent and, with Manchester City apparently willing to spend at least £120m on Elliot Anderson, Jones is worth a lot more than Inter are currently offering.
Jones is a key component of Andoni Iraola’s transitional squad planning, and the club have no appetite to let the academy graduate leave cheaply.
The Reds are feeling no immediate pressure to sell unless a vastly-improved financial package is presented by the Serie A champions.
Expect a renewed offer in the region of £30m, which may test Liverpool’s resolve.
