Iraola wants Jones to stay

Andoni Iraola made a positive impression during his first press conference as Liverpool head coach.

He said all the right things about the club, he gave Harvey Elliott hope that he has a chance to stay at the club if he does well in pre-season, and he also offered an olive branch to Curtis Jones.

Jones has been linked with a move to Inter Milan this summer after a frustrsating season under Arne Slot, with Nottingham Forest waiting in the wings in case a deal falls through.

However, Iraola is keen to hold onto the 25-year-old Liverpool-born midfielder.

“I rate Curtis very highly,” said the boss. “For me he is a great, great player, and I hope he can continue with us and continue performing the way he has been performing.

“It’s very important that he’s Scouse, that he’s from here.

“I also like the personality. From the outside, at least, he looks like a player with good character, and I hope we can keep him, not only for this year but for more time.”
