Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Andoni Iraola to become their new head coach.
Following the departure of Arne Slot on Saturday, the 43-year-old Spaniard quickly emerged as the clear favourite to take over at Anfield.
Iraola is expected to sign a two-year contract, which mirrors the structure of both deals he signed during his time in charge of Bournemouth.
Discussions are now ongoing regarding the composition of his backroom staff. He wants to bring several key members of his Bournemouth coaching and backroom team with him, including Pablo de la Torre, Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper and Tom Webber.
Liverpool are expected to officially appoint and present Iraola before the end of the week, with the customary scarf-waving in front of the Kop.
As we have seen previously with both Brendan Rodgers and Arne Slot, the head coach role holds a lot less authority within the club. Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards will still be responsible for player transfers and Iraola will be tasked with getting the best out of them. The setup didn’t work particularly well in those two previous appointments, so we will see how things pan out this time.
