Isak not far off return to action

/liverpool-fc/ref=”/liverpool-fc/alexander-isak”>Alexander Isak is training (albeit in trainers rather than boots) and is not far off full fitness, according to Arne Slot.

“I think we all know when the moment you go onto the pitch, it doesn’t take three months anymore,” the Liverpool boss said ahead in Thursday morning’s press conference ahead of the trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. “But these final stages of rehab are also the ones that can make things change.

“So, in the gym you can hardly do too much and in this stage you constantly have to wait and see if you tick the next box, the next box, the next box.

“Let’s not put a timescale on it, but it’s clear that he will be available, if things go as planned, this season.”

The striker broke his leg and injured his ankle when scoring in Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Tottenham on December 20th and underwent surgery two days later. It was originally thought he would be out for the season, but recovery has been going well.

This latest update from Slot is great news, as Isak was just starting to show the form we expected to see when we signed him from Newcastle last summer for £125m.

Fortunately for the Reds, Hugo Ekitike has been a revelation since his £79m move from Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 15 goals in all competitions so far this season.
