Liverpool set-piece coach sacked

Liverpool have sacked first team set-piece coach Aaron Briggs, after 18 months at the club.

Excluding penalties, the Reds have conceded 12 goals from set-pieces – the most in all of Europe’s top five leagues.

This has been one of the main reasons for the club’s poor run of results in recent months, with Arne Slot publicly criticising the team’s defensive record against set-pieces.

A club statement read: “Liverpool FC can confirm Aaron Briggs has departed his role as set-piece coach of the men’s first team.

“Having joined the club in July 2024 – initially in the role of individual development coach – Briggs contributed to our Premier League title success last season as a member of Arne Slot’s backroom staff.”

The remaining coaching staff, including Sipke Hulshoff and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, will take over Briggs’ role until a replacement is found.
