Slot’s post-Brighton reaction

Arne Slot didn’t have a lot to say about the 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

The Liverpool boss had as much energy as the players during the game, as he responded to questions about the disappointing result.

“What went wrong started off with the lead up to this game,” he told reporters. “As so many times happened this season, when we played a very good game and we thought we, we could, bring that level to the next game, or even better, we had Mo Salah injured. We had Alisson injured.

“And after two minutes Hugo Ekitike out. So that’s that that has happened so many times to us the season and again now. And what happened a lot this season is also that the first chance of the other team immediately went in. But Brighton deserved to win. If you look at the second half with the goals in the first half, I think it was an equal game.

“But in the second half, Brighton were the better team on the pitch and they deserved to win.”

The result means that Liverpool remain in joint fifth place with Chelsea in the Premier League table but, if they play like that in the remaining seven games we will almost certainly miss out on Champions League football next season.

It’s not good enough.
