Calvin Ramsay was touted as one to watch when Liverpool signed him from Aberdeen for £4.2m in 2022.
However, midway through his first season at the club, the 22-year-old right-back picked up an injury ruling him out for the season.
The following four seasons were spent on loan at Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and Kilmarnock.
Now he is back at Liverpool and eager to get back in shape.
“I spoke with my agent and the club at the start of the season and, off the back of the loans that I’ve had, the best solution was to stay around the club here, play with the U21s, get back to full fitness and get opportunities with the first team like I’ve got,” he said, in an interview in the club’s matchday programme.
“I’ve trained with them, played against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. That was the plan really and I think it’s worked out perfectly because I feel fit, I feel good training with the first team and hopefully it puts me in a good position now.
“Obviously after a few loan spells where I didn’t play too much, to be back involved and training with the first team is good. It’s good for my development to be around world-class players.”
If Liverpool were still in the League Cup we may have had the chance to see Ramsay back in the first team. Now the best chance of silverware is the FA Cup, its unlikely that Arne Slot will give the Scotsman playing time, but you never know.
With the current injury crisis, it would be good to have another right-back available if needed.
