Liverpool remain optimistic on Diomande deal

Liverpool are still confident that they can secure a deal for Yan Diomande, despite RB Leipzig dig their heels in to keep the talented winger.

Diomande has been identified as the prime candidate to fill the massive void left by Mohamed Salah this summer. The Egyptian forward departed Anfield at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season following nine highly-successful years on Merseyside and replacing him isn’t going to be easy.

The Bundesliga club has already knocked back Liverpool’s initial offer worth £87m. Reports suggest that it could take a fee shattering the current Bundesliga transfer record to force Leipzig to part ways with their star teenager. That will be Ousmane Dembele’s move from Dortmund to Barcelona for £97m in 2017.

Fenway Sports Group remain undeterred by the hefty price tag. A second, improved offer is anticipated to be submitted to Leipzig in the coming days.

Beyond the financial negotiations, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano emphasises that Liverpool’s persuasion tactics with the player himself could be the deciding factor in the transfer saga.

“I think the player side of this deal is still a bit underrated in terms of the media,” he said on the Blood Red Podcast.

“It’s always the talk about the bid, the new bid, the next bid, but I believe that Liverpool are doing excellent work on the player side in order to get the green light and to have Diomande telling Leipzig, ‘let me go to Liverpool.’

“So that’s what they’re doing, and that’s why I believe there is confidence at the club to get it done.”

By building a strong relationship with Diomande’s camp, Liverpool hope the player will actively push for the move, giving them the ultimate leverage to finalise the transfer after the World Cup.
