Sitting pretty at the top going into 2025

We were all in shock when Jurgen Klopp announced he was leaving Liverpool and were nervous about the short-term future under a new manager. When Arne Slot was announced there was a lot of head-scratching. Who was this Dutchman and does he have the credentials to fill Jurgen’s big boots?

Thankfully he did, and more. Slot hit the ground running, taking an already strong squad built up by Klopp over several seasons and adding touches to make it his own.

Ryan Gravenberch had failed to impress since his arrival from Bayern Munich a year earlier. He struggled on the wing and was often on the bench for the big games. With Liverpool lacking a holding midfielder, Slot saw the Dutchman’s potential, even when the majority of fans were questioning the move. Gravenberch went on to prove us all wrong and has become one of the key players in the Reds’ domination in all competitions this season.

We are top of the Premier League and have clear air between ourselves and second-placed Nottingham Forest. That’s right, Nottingham Forest! The stars appear to be aligning for Liverpool. We are performing at an incredibly high level at a time when Man City are capitulating and Arsenal and Chelsea are inconsistent. Let’s hope that continues through the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, in the Champions League, the Reds are also a force to be reckoned with. Many have criticised the new format for stretching out the competition with additional meaningless games. However, Liverpool are happy to beat whoever’s put in front of them, large or small, whether they be Girona or Real Madrid. Flights to Munich at the end of May are already going up in price.

I’ve not even touched upon the League Cup semi-final tie with Tottenham and the FA Cup draw with Accrington Stanley. Who are they?

Don’t say it too loud just yet, but at this rate Liverpool could go on to win the lot.

Here’s to an exciting 2025!
