Liverpool cast Harvey Elliott aside during Arne Slot‘s time in charge of the club. He didn’t fit the system and was shipped off to Aston Villa on a strange £35m deal that left him out in the cold there too.
Villa had agreed a one-season loan deal with a £35m purchase clause that would be triggered after 10 games were played.
Villa boss Unai Emery didn’t want to buy him to he spent most of the season out of the first team squad, only playing a total of seven games, despite playing well when given the chance.
Now Slot has been ousted, incoming head coach Andoni Iraola could well see the quality in Elliott and give him another run in the Liverpool team to prove himself.
The Mail’s Lewis Moody is of a similar opinion.
“We don’t know what the manager wants, the manager’s going to have the chance to assess them,” he said on a recent podcast.
“So I think in terms of a lot of the outgoings, whether that’s on loan or permanent, they’re going to be later in the window.
“I think Iraola’s going to want to have a look at Harvey Elliott. From what I’ve heard, he’s willing to give him a chance on the tour and then we’ll go from there.
“I think you can say the same about Trey [Nyoni], about the other youngsters that are knocking around the squad.”
