Arne Slot‘s sacking by Liverpool Football Club on Saturday took many of us by surprise, not least some of the players who he’s been working with over the last couple of seasons.
Despite winning the Premier League title in his first season, after taking over from Jurgen Klopp, Slot struggled last term, finishing a disappointing fifth place while playing poorly on the pitch.
The club had backed the Dutchman throughout the season and we were all led to believe he would remain in charge going forward. However, that all came to an abrupt ending on Saturday, when Liverpool announced Slot’s departure with immediate effect.
Over the weekend many of the Liverpool players said their goodbyes via social media. It was clear that, even if some of them were frustrated with Slot’s tactics, they still respected him and were thankful for the opportunities he gave them.
